The Pledge of Allegiance

The MGSD Board of Education opened its October meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance led by MHS NJROTC Cadet Victoria Pinney.  Cadet Pinney is a senior at Mooresville High School and has spent four year in the NJROTC program.  She was selected by the MHS NJROTC instructor Captain Gibson.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

The MGSD Board of Education honored Mr. Kenneth Threatt, Mooresville Middle School Custodian, with the October ABCD Award.  Mr. Threatt was nominated by the MMS Administrative Team -- Principal Ayana Robinson and Assistant Principals Jay Jones, Tracy Pratt-Dixon, and Jennifer Marshall.  In their nomination they said:

Mr. Threatt is a custodian at Mooresville Middle School. His work ethic, professionalism, and kind heart is a true example of our district's motto “every child, every day.”  Over the summer Mr. Threatt stepped up when our head custodian was out due to surgery. Mr. Threatt made it his number one priority to get MMS ready to receive students on the first day of school. He constantly checked in with administration, his fellow custodial staff, the front office, and teachers to make sure everything was exactly how it needed to be to open school. Mr. Threatt is a servant leader -- he always looks for ways to say yes to a question, and he is willing to do whatever he can to solve a problem. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to ask the right questions in order to ensure the correct answer is given. During a regular school day, you will find Mr. Threatt doing more than just completing his assigned duties. He is a huge support to MMS in several ways. For example, he provides constant support while students are in the cafeteria. He is known to step in and make sure everyone is safe and following the cafeteria expectations. Mr. Threatt is a great reminder of why “it is ALWAYS a great day to be a Red Imp!

Artist of the Month

The Artist of the Month for the Mooresville Graded School District was recognized at the October Board of Education meeting. Mooresville High School senior, Miss Victoria Jean Borgia, was nominated by teachers Ron Higdon (drama), Melanie Kalkan (choir), and Joshua Stevenson (band).  In the nomination,  these teachers said:

Tori has appeared in our Spring Musical every year she has been a student at MHS, including major supporting roles in "Legally Blonde" and "Once Upon a Mattress," and the lead role in "Night of the Living Dead."  Tori has also participated in all of our annual NC Theatre Conference competitions. Her collaborative work earned MHS a Superior rating in 2015, our initial year of competition.  Her work was critical to our 2016 production of "Sillyheart," which also earned a Superior rating.  You can see her perform as the lead in "Wendy's Tale," one of our two submissions for NCTC regional competition later this month.  Tori is a member of the International Thespian Honors Society and serves as an officer for the Cothurnus Drama Club.  Tori is also on the drum line for our Band program, where she has excelled for the past four years.  She is integral to the Band's marching competitions, pep band, and concert band.  She will be taking voice lessons with our Choral Department and is a member of the their Honors class, where she will take part in the 2018 Spring musical "Beauty and the Beast."  Tori intends to study music at Appalachian State after her graduation in June 2018.
