Artist of the Month

Jillian M. was selected as the MGSD Artist of the Month for January!  Jillian is a 2nd grade student at Rocky River Elementary and was nominated by her art teacher Ms. Sossamon who said the following about Jillian:  "Jillian is a sweet, hardworking student.  She is conscientious and always strives to do her best work.  For this project, Jillian painted a watercolor background and used a tutorial video to draw a cute hot chocolate cup with colored pencils.  She combined everything into this great winter collage!  I can always count on Jillian to lead by example in my classroom.  She is a joy to teach!" Congratulations, Jillian!

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

Sharon Raven, Rocky River Elementary School School Nutrition staff member, was nominated for the January ABCD Award. Ms. Raven was nominated by the RRES administrative team, Principal Dr. Chuck LaRusso and Assistant Principal Ms. Lani Earnhardt.  In the nomination, Dr. LaRusso and Ms. Earnhardt said:  "Our school is blessed to have an incredible staff of high quality and caring individuals that serve the best interest of our students each and every day.  Perhaps one of the best examples of this excellence can be found in our School Nutrition Department.  This team consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty for the sake of our school and our students.  Sharon Raven is a critical member of this team that does so many things well.  She is extremely creative and often decorates the cafeteria based on the themes that are going on at our school.  Whether it is Read Across America Week, 50s Day, or a Pink Out, students delight at seeing our cafeteria staff participating, with Sharon leading the way!  But perhaps the thing that stands out most about Sharon is the love she demonstrates for the students of Rocky River.  She makes an effort to know every child's name and makes the most out of her opportunity to interact with them.  She is quick with her friendly smile and speaks to each child with such kindness.  Sharon often takes advantage of her daily interaction with student to find out as much as she can about them.  Likewise, students who face challenges can be certain that Sharon will use this opportunity to let students know she cares and encourages them!"

Instructional Highlight

Rocky River Elementary School presented the Instructional Highlight for the month of January.  RRES added Virtual Reality to its learning tools this year and the students (and adults) are loving it! You can check out their presentation for the Board here!
