Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

Thank you to Ms. Kathi Johnson, Financial Secretary for Mooresville Middle School, for always going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty!

Ms. Johnson received the ABCD award from the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education at the June 12 board meeting. Ms. Johnson was nominated by MMS principal Ayana Robinson and assistant principals Jay Jones, Tracy Pratt-Dixon, and Jennifer Marshall. In the nomination, the MMS administrative team said the following about Ms. Johnson:

"Ms. Johnson serves as the financial secretary at MMS, but that job title does not begin to encompass all of the things that Ms. Johnson does on a daily basis to serve students and staff. Ms. Johnson could be described as the matriarch of MMS. She is loving and available for all students, staff, and parents. She completes her main role of making sure the money management of MMS is always on point. Ms. Johnson takes the time to understand the purpose of the instructional purchases that we make at MMS. MMS has implemented the reading recovery program "Corrective Reading" and uses AIMs web to monitor students' progress. Ms. Johnson met with the team and asked specific questions about the benefits of the program. She frequently checks on the progress of the students in these groups because she wants to see them be successful. Her eyes light up when we are able to report that students are showing success. Ms. Johnson's office is a hub of information, and all staff stops by her office to receive information or to just get advice. If there is a question, everyone knows they can turn to Ms. Johnson for a response. Ms. Johnson is always looking for ways to reward students and teachers! If a student is having a rough day she is quick to pull them in her office and help to de-escalate the situation. She reminds every student that they can be successful. If transportation is short a driver and needs someone to fill in, Ms. Johnson makes herself available to step in and drive the bus. If a teacher needs a sub, Ms. Johnson personally calls subs and does a great job of matching sub personalities to classrooms, ensuring that the students and the sub are successful. We can go on and on about the amazing job Ms. Johnson does to serve our school, but in summary she is the picture perfect example of "every child, every day!"
